Slip-And-Fall

Injuries On Another's Property

Property owners who invite the public in, such as the owners of retail stores and apartment buildings, have a duty to maintain a safe premises for the people they invite onto the property. That duty includes monitoring the safety of the property and taking any needed action in a reasonable time frame. Even if the property owner was unaware of the hazard, he or she may be responsible if he or she should have known about it.

When property owners fail to maintain a safe premises and someone is injured, they need to be held accountable for how that failure on their part has injured that person.

Slip-and-fall and trip-and-fall accidents can happen because of a wide range of circumstances:

  • Spilled produce
  • Spilled liquids
  • Unsecured entrance mats
  • Broken pavement
  • Uneven or broken stairs
  • Insufficient lighting

Were You Injured Due To Inadequate Security?

Property owners can also be responsible for injuries caused by inadequate security. An example would be an apartment owner who knows there is a crime risk in the neighborhood fails to adequately maintain exterior doors and locks. If someone is assaulted on the property, the owner of the building should be held accountable for that person's injuries.
